What Course Should I Take For Security?

Your Path to a Secure Future:
When it comes to pursuing a career in security, one of the first decisions you’ll face is determining the right security course for your goals. The security industry offers a range of license subclasses, each with its own training requirements. To make an informed choice, it’s essential to understand the prerequisites and training options available. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the key considerations for selecting the ideal security course.
License Subclasses and Training Requirements
1E, 2B, and 2C License Subclasses: Some subclasses, like 1E, 2B, and 2C, do not demand formal training. However, for other subclasses, specific security license courses are mandatory. It’s important to note that only training qualifications obtained through SLED-Approved Organizations are accepted for Class 1 license applications.
Master License: If you’re aiming for a Master license, you won’t need formal training.
Class 1 License: Comprehensive Training Required
For those pursuing a Class 1 license, except for 1E applicants, comprehensive training is a prerequisite. The recommended course is the NSW Security Licence Course (SLC), typically conducted by SLED-Approved Organizations.
SECTA is a highly regarded choice for this purpose.
Key Training Requirements for Class 1 License Applicants:
SLED Pre-Enrolment Assessment: This includes a language, literacy, and numeracy test (LLN), ensuring candidates possess essential communication and cognitive skills.
First Aid Certificate: All Class 1 license applicants, except 1E, must hold a current First Aid certificate. This should be HLTAID011 or HLTAID014, issued within the past three years by a Registered Training Organization. Please note that SLED will only accept superseded HLTAID003 and HLTAID006 qualifications for licensing if completed before June 30, 2022. Regular renewal (every three years) is mandatory for First Aid certificates while holding a NSW security license.
HLTAID011 (Apply First Aid): For Class 1A or 1C licenses.
HLTAID014 (Provide Advanced First Aid): For Class 1B, 1D, or 1F licenses.
Specialist License Subclasses (1B, 1C, 1D, or 1F): If you’re applying for a specialist license subclass, such as 1B (Bodyguard), 1C (Cash-in-Transit Guard), 1D (Dog Handler), or 1F (Armed Guard), additional units specific to your subclass are required.
For a 1B Bodyguard subclass, you must complete units from CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection and HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid.
For a 1C Cash-in-Transit Guard subclass, you’ll need to complete Cash-in-Transit Guard units.
For a 1D Dog Handler subclass, units from CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations are necessary.
For a 1F Armed Guard subclass, units from CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations are required.
