This new course covers the mandatory requirements for both new entrants and those entrants returning to the sector after an absence of several years, into the security industry in New South Wales. The course will provide you with the skills, knowledge and attributes required to work as the following: security officer unarmed, crowd controller, a loss prevention officer, mobile security officer, and control room and CCTV operative.

The training course will cover the 13 units of competency as prescribed by the NSW Police Force, the Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate (SLED).

Please Note: You MUST hold a current HLTAID003 Provide first aid certificate prior to commencing your security training. See below for details.

To obtain a full CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations you are required to complete the security training course PLUS HTLAID003 Provide first aid.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must be 18 years of age or over.
  • MUST hold a current HLTAID003 Provide first aid certificate. If you do not hold this qualification, please book into one of SECTA’s First Aid courses which are conducted regularly on Saturdays and Sundays before commencing your security training. Return to the home page and Click on Courses – First Aid.
  • Must successfully complete the SLED Mandated Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. This LLN Assessment will be conducted on your pre-enrolment day prior to formally enrolling. The LLN Assessment will take about 2 hours to complete and covers the minimum written, listening, oral and comprehension skills required to complete the course. Should you not pass this LLN Test, then SECTA will refer you to undertake further English training before being able to resit this test at a later date.
  • You must provide 100 points of Identification on Enrolment. View Evidence of Identity, see below.
  • 100 points of ID require you to have 1 x Primary ID and 1 x Seconday ID.
    70 point documents
    The following documents are assigned 70 points each and are called primary documents.
    Birth certificate
    Birth card issued by a State registry of births, deaths and marriages, such as the NSW Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages
    Citizenship certificate
    Current Australian or foreign passport
    Expired Australian passport which has not been cancelled and was current within the preceding two years
    40 point Documents
    Current driver photo licence issued by an Australian state or territory
    Current identification card issued by an Australian state or territory, such as the NSW Photo Card.
  • You must be an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen or hold a Visa that entitles you to full work rights in Australia (persons on Student or Holiday Visa are not permitted to undergo security training

  • You must hold a valid NSW Drivers Licence, Photo ID Card or Customer Service Number from NSW Roads & Maritime Services.

What is the Enrolment Process and What to Bring

  • You must register on-line to attend the SECTA Pre-Enrolment Induction Day. (Payment is not required until you complete the Pre-Enrolment Induction Day).

           This process will take approximately 4 hours.

  • At this time you will undergo the Mandated SLED LLN Assessment and
  • Have an introduction session what the course involves, what job opportunities are available to you by using the SECTA Free Job Agency and how to use the SECTA on-line self -study component of the course.
  • You will be issued with your Learner Guide, self-paced workbook and additional resources required for your studies.
  • For this enrolment process you must bring your 100 Points of ID, your 1st aid certificate (if you have one), a pen and a notebook, your USI number and a full Resume, together with any previous training certificates. (NB: These Certificates do not have to be related to the security industry.) This information will assist the Trainers and Assessors in determining your learning needs.
  • Full payment will be required at the completion of the Enrolment Process.

Course Duration and Method of Delivery

The course will be conducted over 14 days face to face from 8.00am to 5.00pm each day including a 1 hour break   - Monday to Friday for 2 weeks and the Monday to Thursday on the third week. In addition, all students will be required to undergo self-paced learning both before and during the course. Timetable (Link)

The 13 Units of Competency for CPP20218 have been grouped into 4 Clusters. It is expected that you attend and complete all sessions for the 4 clusters listed below.

What to Wear to the Course

You must attend the course in neat, clean and tidy clothing. There will be many simulation assessments whereby you are expected to dress as a professional security officer and will be assessed as such.

Personal hygiene is very important when you are working in a group environment for any period of time. Please ensure that you use deodorant each day.

You must attend all classes in enclosed footwear – ladies included.

The jobs available through this agency include mobile and static work, crowd control duties, airport and retail security, marine security, concierge work as well as schools and hospitals.

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

This course has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver adequate 1st aid until medical help arrives. Most industries require this course to be updated every 3 years and the CPR component every 12 months. You will need to check what your particular industry requires of you.

To apply for a NSW Security Licence you will need to complete training in HLTAID003 Provide First Aid and you are required to update your training every 3 years.

Prerequisites: There is no prerequisite for this unit. You must however, have the Foundation Skills (language, literacy and numeracy) that are essential to perform oral communication in order to make an accurate verbal report to emergency response services or to your workplace supervisor.

Course Content
PART 1: All students are required to complete a Homestudy Workbook prior to the commencement of the one day practical component. The workbook and Learner Guide will only be issued once full payment has been made on-line.


PART 2: The one day practical component of the course reinforces the theory component covered in the Homestudy Workbook.This course comprises of practical demonstrations, scenarios and role plays for the rest of the 8 hour day. There is a final assessment exam at the end of the course.

Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol SITHFAB002

This course has been designed for persons who are seeking employment in the hospitality industry where alcohol is either served or sold. This includes clubs, pubs, restaurants, bottle shops, sporting events and various functions. Persons to whom this course is relevant includes security officers, waiters, concierge, reception staff, bar staff and other staff who have contact with patrons where alcohol is available.This course meets all the requirements of the training package for SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol and the NSW Office of Liquor, Racing and Gambling.


Prerequisites: There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, you need to be over 18 years of age to enrol.

The legal aspects of the Liquor Act and the Registered Clubs Act
The issues surrounding alcohol abuse
Recognising the different levels of intoxication
How to take the appropriate action when dealing with intoxicated patrons
How to assist patrons to follow the responsible drinking guidelines

NEWS FLASH: On 18 December 2019, Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) Commissioners agreed to extend the transition period of the CPP30411 Certificate III in Security Operations and CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations for learner cohorts in NSW, ACT, Tasmania and Victoria until 1 July 2020.

Bodyguard Scenario

This course covers the mandatory requirements for all new entrants into the Security Industry in New South Wales wishing to apply for a Bodyguard (1B) Licence. At the successful completion of this course you will be able to apply for employment as a Bodyguard within the NSW Security Industry.
